    Window card from the original 1975 production. The revival of CHICAGO has set its own record. But it is the original production with legends Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera that is revered among musical theatre aficionados. Directed and choreographed by the extraordinary Bob Fosse, CHICAGO ran for two years on Broadway and, of course, served as the basis for the Academy Award-winning film. The show is, in part, a musical satire on celebrity criminals, e.g. O.J. Simpson, Patty Hearst, Martha Stewart. And includes their lawyers, their promoters, the journalists who write about them as well as their cell mates. It may be cynical but it's also sheer entertainment. Every musical number is modeled on a counterpart from Vaudeville. And the three stars of the show, i.e., VERDON, RIVERA and FOSSE are each at the very pinnacle of their proficiency.The card was designed by Tony Walton, CHICAGO'S brilliant set designer. This window card is not a reprint. It is from the original 1975 print run. It has been glazed and framed since 1975 and only recently deframed. 1/2 inch open tear bottom left corner. Framer penned one line of framing instructions in small letters at very bottom on back of card. Back of card has tanned somewhat over the years. Otherwise excellent condition and ready for re-framing if so desired.
