  • Condition: This vibrant and beautiful dinner plate in the Mottahedeh Tobacco Leaf style pattern is in excellent very good condition with an unglazed foot that is somewhat rough and there is a tiny black speck on the front. This plate has a sticker on the bottom that says Made in China. I purchased it at a private sale and no age is specified. It was very dirty on the bottom but cleaned up with a wipe of dish soap. This plate is approximately 10" in diameter.The design shows the leaves of the Flowering Nicotiana (Tobacco) plant upon which a small phoenix perches bearing a flowering twig in its beak. The joyous exuberance of the Tobacco Leaf Pattern is undiminished by time. This Chinese pattern is one of the most prized of Export patterns and was developed circa 1780.This plate I believe very old but without a mark it is hard to place. This is not the average design of today but this one has no tiny floral design that surrounds the rim. Please check the pictures for condition and detail.

    The enameling is fine and 3 dimensional in the main flowers.
    Not being an expert in this variety of porcelain art I do not wish to mislead in any way.  This is indeed an old piece and a beautiful one.  It could be authentic Mottahedeh or a replica of the tobacco leaf design.
    The stand is not included.
