Discontinued collection, expensive collection item due to its characteristics, hand-painted, gold and export with few examples in Portugal
Vista Alegre Mark Nº 34 manufacturing period from 1971 to 1980, Nº HC 182. The blue mark reads: "Blue Mottahedeh, VA 1824 Portugal Historic Charleston Reproduction".
Designed by Mottahedeh, New York, the pieces were produced by Vista Alegre, Portugal.
Vista Alegre manufactured this collection for a short period of time, around 1973; after which they were never produced again.
The Mottahedeh Company of New York has been in business for over 85 years, and is the recognized leader in antique reproductions.
They have made porcelain objects at the request of the US Government, the US State Department and even for US Presidents.
Their designs are adapted to luxury ceramics, mainly hard porcelain, and metals.
The Historic Charleston "Blue Pineapple" reproduction series is no longer made, and is rarely seen on the second hand market.
The "Pineapple" motif on these cups has a very special significance in Southern Hospitality.
It is recognised as a traditional expression of "Welcome" throughout the south and in areas along the east coast.
Vista alegre is the best porcelain produced in Portugal. Holds the highest international awards.
